Clinical trials bring tomorrow’s treatments to Gibbs today.

Clinical trials evaluate new drugs, treatment strategies or disease prevention. The availability of clinical trials is central to our mission of offering patients state-of-the-art treatments at Gibbs. The Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute and its affiliates are participating in numerous clinical trials which include both National Cancer Institute (NCI) research trials and pharmaceutical sponsored trials. In fact, we’re already one of the largest cancer research centers in South Carolina, with more than 70 trials underway at any time through the Upstate Carolina-Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP) at Gibbs. Patients in our advanced clinical trials and research studies have early access to next-generation treatments and promising therapies before they are available anywhere else.

Your treatment team evaluates your eligibility to participate in a clinical trial(s). Gibbs staffs the largest research and clinical trials team in the Upstate, with specially trained research nurses and support staff as well as doctors, technicians, social workers and other specialized medical professionals to carefully monitor your health before, during and after the study.

Why should you participate?

By choosing to participate in research programs and clinical trials at Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute, you may have the opportunity to help prevent, treat or even cure future cancers, while getting the most expert medical care for yourself.

Trials are strictly controlled and meticulously documented. Participation is totally voluntary, and eligibility is determined by a range of factors, such as the trial’s parameters, the type and stage of your cancer, and other physical and medical conditions.

By choosing to join this important investigational process, you become part of something larger than yourself. You’re able to transcend your own illness and contribute to the greater good by helping to improve future treatments, possibly for a family member or friend. As a Gibbs patient, you are provided with the best and most advanced therapies available which may include treatments provided through a clinical trial.
